Apples are my favorite fall fruit. I love how crisp and juicy they are, not to mention all the different varieties of apples that each have their own unique flavor. Apples are the star fruit of the season with pears coming in a close second.
Besides being the perfect fall fruit, apples are healthy and filled with all sorts of vitamins and nutrients, as are all vegetables and fruits- the perfect foods that come from the ground.
A regular sized apple roughfully contains about 4 grams of fiber which helps keep you full making them a convient snack or addition to any meal. Apples are also powerhouses at helping regulate blood sugar levels which can help prevent or manage diabetes and other dietry diseases. I have even read a few research articles that suggest the regular eating of apples can reduce the risk of certain cancers mainly from the triterpenoids found in the apple peal, which is why you shouldn’t peel the apple before eating!
There has also been a lot of research on how the fiber in apples can also help reduce cholestoral and prevent heart disease. Just looking over this list of health benefits, it’s hard to justify not eating an apple a day as the old saying goes…
An apple a day keeps the doctor away
Of course we all know that we feel better when we eat a diet rich of fruits and vegetables, they come from the ground, God created them and for the most part when eaten in their purest form, they are a must to our healthy diets. (I’ll save the soap box on my stance of GMOs and pesticide sprayed foods but I try to avoid them as much as my budget allows.)
I’ll admit I’m one of those people who eats apples year ’round, yep I buy them out of season. Sure they might not be the juciest or even the cheapest option in the produce area of the store but they are a quick and convient snack both for myself and for my kids.
Quick and Easy Apple Snack Ideas
- Apple with a cheese stick
- Apple slices sprinked with cinnamon
- Apple slices dipped in peanut or almond butter
- Applesauce- I’m a fan of homemade, it’s just so good! But for convience we love these pouches. My kids beg for them so I have to limit them for special treats throughout the week. I also buy plain unsweetened applesauce and sprinkle my own cinnamon on top.
I’ll also admit that despite their health benefits, some of my favorite apple recipes counteract the nutrients. I mean seriously, what’s better than warm apples, melted butter, cinnamon and sugar? 🙂

Some of my favorite ways to decorate with apples are simple yet beautiful. I love filling a clear glass bowl or vase with apples as a lovely, and frugal, centerpiece. I also love apples with the tops carved out to hold small tea lights. There are so many fun ways to decorate with apples that don’t require much, or any, crafty skills or a large budget.
