This week has a been a big and busy week for me and you may have noticed that I have missed a few days in my 31 days series.
My eBook launched, I’ve been on a wave of promotional highs and lows but yesterday was a day when my favorite season got a little sweeter. Yesterday was my 32nd birthday. I don’t write that in hopes that I will get lots of well wishes, I tell you because it’s part of the reason why I enjoy fall so much.
When I was younger and celebrating my birthday was more of an event, I got to have parties and celebrate with friends. These days the celebrations are much simpler to include a card or two, extra hugs from my little ones, a date night with my favorite guy and just taking the time to enjoy my life and the blessings from God.
Yesterday for example my daily schedule was go to Bible study, spend some time with my little guy (Thursday afternoons are his one-on-one time since Amelia is in MDO all day), go to the Chiropractor (when your pregnant, this is like a trip to the spa!) and drop both kids off to spend the night with grandma so my husband and I can go out and enjoy a nice date. I’m sort of lucky that yesterday was the travel day for our beloved KC Royals and there was no World Series game on, or as my husband jokingly said, “We’ll I guess that means you get a birthday date!” 🙂 Simple celebrations, abundant blessings.
Originally I was going to post something quirky like 32 of my favorite things, or something like 32 lessons I’ve learned in 32 years but I just didn’t feel like I was able to share 32 authentic lessons on life and if you have been reading my blog for a while, then you probably already have a pretty good idea of what some of my favorite things are (Jesus, family, books and coffee pretty much top that list).
One of the great delights in having a fall birthday is experiencing one of the most beautiful seasonal changes, in my opinion. I think God makes fall so beautiful, and the hope of spring’s birth beautiful as well, is to make the long, cold and often times dreary winter, more bearable. Just look at the beautiful and rich colors of the changing leaves! Or the vibrant orange pumpkins. Or the lush red, yellow and orange mums.
It’s just lovely in my opinion.
I have been going at full speed for most of the month of October but this week I made the choice to stop and slow down, to truly enjoy the season, enjoy my family, enjoy the accomplishment of a huge goal and to to just stop and rest.
Because sometimes, even if you aren’t pregnant, you just need to stop, put your feet up, eat Skittles (or whatever your favorite Halloween candy is) and watch a mindless T.V. show while your kids nap instead of working, writing, cleaning or doing something else productive.
So as you can see, I took a few days off from blogging and writing to just rest and savor this season. My body needed it, my mind needed and my family needed it. It’s good to give ourselves grace to say no more.
In other fun news, I’m now headed into the 28 week of pregnancy and have been making the effort to “dress the bump” up into something more fun than just the standard 4 or 5 shirts and pair of pants that currently fit.
I do still have some fun, festive fall themed posts to wrap up October over the next week that I am excited to share with you. But I have removed the expectation from myself that I need to post something every day during this 31 days challenge, even if it IS part of the challenge. Oh and I have also begun working on some really fun things for November and December too that I am excited to share with you all!
In the meantime, you can sit back and catch up on any of the previous 31 Days of Savoring Fall posts here. And if you are looking to really make my day, and hopefully get your own wardrobe in order, you can purchase your own copy of Simply Dressed here.
