Oh So Yummy Apple Pie Instant Oatmeal
One of my favorite breakfast foods to enjoy when the weather starts to get cooler is a nice big bowl of warm and comforting oatmeal. I’m a HUGE oatmeal fan, especially when it is flavored to taste like one of my favorite fall treats… apple pie! Combine it all together and what do you have? Apple Pie Instant Oatmeal… oh-so-yummy!
Those instant oatmeal packets are super handy and convenient but as I’ve become more aware of ingredient lists and price per unit, buying those pre-made, store bought oatmeal packets just isn’t something that I’m comfortable with anymore. In case you’ve never read the label, some varieties have some very questionable ingredients included.
While I do love oatmeal, just plain oatmeal can be a little hard to stomach especially since I was so used to those flavored, instant packets. Recently a light when off in my head… why don’t I try making my own packets?
And you know what? The final results where not only frugal and easy to make, but also incredibly delicious too!
Apple Pie Instant Oatmeal contains some of my favorite flavors combined into one comforting and pretty filling, breakfast dish: apples, raisins. cinnamon and a dash of Pure Via, which is all natural, Non-GMO, made from the stevia plant and is a great alternative to sugar and artificial sweeteners, which I try to stay away from.
If you have never made your own instant oatmeal packets than you don’t know what you are missing! It’s super easy to whip up several packets quickly and it’s a great way to get the kids involved. If they are old enough you can teach them to measure and pour the different ingredients into each sandwich baggie. Plus you can easily make a week, or two, worth of oatmeal packets in just a few minutes of time!
Ingredients Needed:
The following makes one individual instant oatmeal pack, so multiply how many packs you would like to make in one sitting. I like to make about 5 or 6, to get us through the week eating oatmeal 2 or 3 mornings.
1/2 cup of Old Fashioned Rolled Oats
1 TBSP unsweetened raisins
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 packet of Pure Via Stevia
1/4 apple diced into small bite-sized pieces
2 TBSP ground flax (not pictured) *optional
Sandwich baggies
Step One
Measure out the oats, raisins and cinnamon into a single sandwich baggie. Pour in one packet of Pure Via. Close the bag securely, then give a little shake to combine all the ingredients. Repeat filling additional sandwich baggies as desired.
Step Two
When ready to make, empty packet into a microwave safe bowl. Cut up 1/4 of an apple into small, bite-sized pieces and mix into the oatmeal. Add 3/4 cup of water and mix well. Microwave on high for 1-2 minutes, or you could boil on the stove top if you prefer.
Serve warm and enjoy!
This oatmeal tastes just like a nice, warm, delicious slice of apple pie… only much healthier and a more filling way to start your day!
The oats are filling and loaded with fiber to help keep you full, the cinnamon adds a savory touch, the apples and raisins add a natural touch of sweetness and flavor while the Pure Via adds an additional layer of sweetness without being overpowering.
What I also love about Pure Via is that it tastes great not only in the apple pie oatmeal but in a variety of different dishes and drinks. It’s a great choice for people who want to live a healthy lifestyle as one packet contains zero calories and is a natural alternative to sugar. Best off all it’s Non-GMO which is a huge factor for me when choosing healthy food options for my family.
Plus Pure Via is incredibly affordable! I purchased mine from Walmart with this $0.55 off coupon that you too can download and print, while supplies last. You can also take advantage of a FREE song and cookbook/songbook from Jewel!
