Everything You Need to Write the Word
Writing the Word is a simple discipline that has dramatically transformed my faith and had made God’s Word alive and active in my life like never before. The more I write the Word, the more God’s truths are being firmly ingrained in my heart.
I LOVE writing out Scriptures as part of my daily Bible study time. It has made God’s Word become alive and active to me than anything else I had done in my faith journey, and I know the same can be true for you!
Writing the Word has gained popularity in recent years but it has been a spiritual discipline practiced throughout the pages of the Bible.
Below is a list of some of my favorite resources and writing plans to help you as you embark on the journey of incorporating the spiritual discipline of writing the Word on a daily basis.
Guided Scripture Writing Journals
I wanted to spend time getting to know an entire book of the Bible in a deeper more impactful way. I couldn’t find any specific Scripture writing plans that walked you through one whole book, so I created my own called Scripture Graces: A Word by Word Journey Through the Bible {Gospel of John Edition).
It’s a daily journal and keepsake to house your journey through the entire Gospel of John, word by word, which includes an entire writing plan that breaks up the book into small daily assignments.
Each day contains a two-page spread to record the Scripture Graces, a small portion of Scripture, and Daily Graces, a place to go further into the Word through prayer, journaling, Bible study or anything else on your heart that day.
You can read about all the details of the journal, as well as take a peek inside, HERE.
Another option is these Write the Word journals from Lara Casey.
These are small leather-bound keepsake journals that follow a topical writing plan, rather than writing an entire book of the Bible.
Every day is a 2-page spread to write the selected themed Bible verse, as well as a page for prayer, journaling or whatever is in your heart. There are five different options available, each that contains a specific theme to write through.
You can learn more about these journals here.

Scripture Writing Plans
My friend Candace from His Mercy is New has a variety of Write the Word Scripture writing plans available for you to download for free on her blog.
Kayse Pratt from Intentional Moms also has some free Scripture writing plans available on her blog as well
Another great option is the Inscribe the Word series from The Felicity Bee.
I also have a Pinterest board that I regularly pin Scripture writing plans when I come across them.
Favorite Bibles & Pens
Everyone has their favorite pens that they feel write the best and glide the smoothest on paper. For me, my favorite pens are both from Paper Mate.
I love the flair felt tip pins (they do bleed through thinner paper) and the Inkjoy gel tip pens. They both glide on smoothly and the colors are so vibrant.
While I love my Scripture Graces journal and use it every day, I used just a basic college-ruled spiral notebook.
I like pretty notebooks and journals, so I typically try to find “pretty” one on DaySpring. They always have a great collection and almost always have a great sale with a discount code. They are also good to stock up on for personal use or for gifts.
Journaling Bibles are very popular right now for good reason. I LOVE having space in the margins to write notes from my Bible study as well as Bible verses.
Currently, I am using the ESV Single Column Journaling Bible.
But there are so many beautiful Bibles out there right now that are perfect for journaling, Scripture writing, and even for Bible Art.
The ones below are some I have on my “Wish List” but I really can’t justify a need for having that many Bibles 😉
Additional Resources
One of my absolute FAVORITE books when it comes to understanding how to read and study God’s Word for deeper devotion is Jen Wilken’s Women of the Word: How to Study the Bible with Both Our Hearts & Minds. It’s a fantastic resource that I refer to regularly and it’s an easy read, not intimating or overwhelming at all.
My favorite online Bible study community is She Reads Truth and I regularly follow along with their monthly plans and subscribe to have their daily devotionals delivered straight to my inbox.
I house all of my daily quiet time resources into my Bible Book Basket, it’s my FAVORITE way to store and keep all of my supplies, books, journals, and Bible study materials organized and portable.
And to keep my pens, highlighters, post-it notes, book darts, and paper clips organized, I store them all in a handy, canvas pencil pouch.
